Purpose
Login with your NHS Smartcard is required to use functionality within Medicus that interacts with the NHS spine services. In order for you to login to your Medicus account using your NHS Smartcard and access, you will first need to pair your Smartcard with your Medicus account. This guide outlines the steps required to pair/unpair your NHS Smartcard.
Navigating to your account settings
First, you will be required to login to Medicus using your username, password and one time password.
Next, navigate to your account setting by first clicking on your account name in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
Then select 'My Account' to be taken to your Login & Security page.
Pairing your NHS Smartcard
To pair a new Smartcard, click 'Pair Smartcard'.
This will connect to the NHS Care Identity Service to pair your Smartcard. If you have already entered your PIN (e.g. when you logged into your computer) then your Smartcard will be paired, otherwise you will be prompted to enter your PIN.
You can now login using your Smartcard.
Note that if you are logged in with another Smartcard, you will not be able to complete the action above. A banner alerting you to this will be displayed.
Unpairing your NHS Smartcard
To unpair a Smartcard, select the 'Paired Smartcard' field within the Login Details section. You'll be taken to a view on the right side of the screen where you have the option to unpair the Smartcard.
You'll be prompted to confirm that you'd like to go head and unpair the Smartcard. Select the 'Yes, unpair' button to unpair the Smartcard.
The Smartcard will no longer be associated to the Medicus account.
