Purpose
Over-the-counter (OTC) medications are useful to record against a patient care record. This guide outlines how to view and record OTC medications in Medicus.
Navigating to the care record
There are two ways to navigate to the patient record within Medicus:
- Using the patient finder.
- By selecting a patient from the patient list, located in the Patient Administration module.
Once you select the patient you'd like to view through one of the methods outlined above, you'll be taken to the clinical care record.
Recording an OTC medication
There are two ways to record an OTC medication in Medicus:
- From the care record
- From a consultation
Recording an OTC medication from the care record
To record an OTC medication from a patient's care record, select the 'Actions' dropdown menu in the top right hand corner of the patient care record. Select 'OTC medication' from the list.
Recording an OTC medication from a consultation
To record an OTC medication from a consultation, select the 'More actions' dropdown link, and then select 'Over-the-counter medication'.
Completing the OTC medication form
By following one of the two methods above, you'll be presented with the 'Record OTC Medication' form.
The 'Record date' and 'Record author' details are pre-populated, but you can change this if required.
Press 'Save' once you've completed the form to record this information in Medicus.
This will be visible on the:
- Clinical summary page
- Medication regimen page
- Patient journal
