Purpose
You'll need to record an allergy against a patient record if you believe the patient could suffer a reaction if they come into contact with a substance or drug. Allergies are then displayed whilst prescribing medication to a patient so clinical staff can be warned and informed whilst making clinical decisions.
This user guide will show you how to create, view and remove allergies in Medicus.
Navigating to the care record
There are two ways to navigate to the patient record within Medicus:
- Using the patient finder.
- By selecting a patient from the patient list, located in the Patient Administration module.
Once you select the patient you'd like to view through one of the methods outlined above, you'll be taken to the clinical care record.
Creating a new allergy
There are two routes to creating a new allergy in Medicus:
- From a new consultation via the quick action functionality
- From the Care Record
To create an allergy from the Care Record, select 'Allergy' from the Actions menu.
This will open up the 'New Allergy' form.
Note: you may want to create a Yellow Card if this is a new allergy and your patient has had a reaction to a certain prescribed medication.
Once you've populated the details of the allergy, select 'Save' to save the allergy against the patient record.
Viewing and editing an allergy
Allergies will be displayed on the Clinical Summary Page and found in the Patient Journal within the Care Record.
Clicking on the allergy will open up the 'View Allergy' screen.
Selecting any of the pencil icons will allow you to edit details about the allergy.
Allergy warnings when creating a prescription
When creating a new prescription, current allergies are displayed so you're aware of this information to aid clinical decision making.
