Purpose
Anything which requires a piece of work or an action to be completed should have a task associated to it which is assigned to a staff member or team. There are many tasks types in Medicus. For times where a task doesn't fit into any of the specialist task types you can raise a Miscellaneous task.
This user guide will take you through the general look and feel of tasks in Medicus, and the common actions you can do from a task. The guide will use a miscellaneous task as an example.
General layout of a task in Medicus
All tasks in Medicus adopt a split screen view to avoid you having to navigate away from the task whilst looking for information you might need to complete it.
On the left hand side you have the task details, and on the right hand side Medicus shows the patient record.
You can select from the dropdown to view different sections of the patient's care record whilst in the task.
Adding a comment
Comments are a useful tool when a task requires action from multiple assignees. You can use task comments to enter what action you have taken so far, and request input from others before reassigning.
Changing the task assignee
Often tasks will need to be actioned by multiple people before completing. Therefore, you can reassign a task to another individual or a team. Prior to changing the task assignee, you can add a comment with what action you've completed, and what you'd like them to do (see Adding a comment section above).
To change the task assignee, select the current assignee from the Task Details section.
This will open up the Change Task Assignee box where you can select a new assignee and then Change.
If you're working from a task list, then you'll be taken onto the next task once reassigned.
The new assignee will now see the task on their tasks or team tasks on their homepage to complete.
More task actions
At the bottom of the task under More actions you can either:
1. Schedule for later - This is a useful function if a task is not urgent so you'd like to remove the task from your task list for now, and a set a date for it to resurface later, for example the following week.
When you use Schedule for later, you select a date when you want the task to reappear in the main list.
Tasks that are scheduled for later won't be displayed by default on the main task list, but you can always turn on the filter for Scheduled for later to see them.
2. Discard the task - You can discard a task if it is no longer required to be completed.
Completing a task
Only once all actions associated to the task have been closed, should you complete the task.
To do this, simply select Complete task.
The task will now be visible under your Completed task lists.
If you complete a task by mistake, or need to reopen a task you can select the Reopen button on a completed task.
