Purpose
The panic button can be used in either medical emergencies or physical safety threats. In Medicus there is both a physical and virtual panic button. This user guide will show you how to utilise the panic button feature in Medicus.
Panic button configuration
The panic button will be configured during the implementation of Medicus. The button is powered from a desktop app that is installed on all devices and starts automatically upon sign on. You shouldn't have to do anything, and the button is designed so that you'll be alerted if there is a configuration or connection issue.
Physical panic buttons states
The physical panic button uses following states:
- Not plugged in = No light
- Ready = Solid red light
- No signal = Single red flash every 5 seconds (e.g. desktop app is unavailable)
- No connection = Two red flashes every 5 seconds (e.g. internet down)
- Help required = Flashing red light
- Help coming = Pulsing red light
Setting the location during login
It's vital you select your location and site during login to Medicus which will enable the panic button to work. If you do not do this then the panic button will not be available.
Note: the location and site will be pre-populated with your previous location from the last time you logged in.
Triggering a panic alert
You can trigger a panic alert during an emergency by either pressing your physical panic button, or the virtual panic button.
This will trigger a panic alert at other users who are at the same site.
You can also trigger a panic alert through the keyboard shortcut - ctrl + shift + P.
Once you trigger a panic alert, you'll see that both the physical and the virtual panic buttons are flashing.
When someone responds to your panic alert, then you'll notice the light will start to pulse at a lower pace to inform you that help is coming.
Responding to a panic alert
If a user at the same site triggers their panic button, then you will see a panic alert on your screen.
You can choose to respond, or not respond to the panic alert.
Note: If multiple people press their panic button within the same time period, multiple panic alerts will show on your screen, with the oldest alert first.
If you are responding to a panic alert, other staff members will be informed on the pop out alert.
Cancelling a panic alert
Once the incident is over (or if you accidentally triggered the panic button) you can cancel the alert. To do this, select the user settings.
From the user settings, select Active Panic Alerts.
From the list, select Cancel alert.
You'll be taken to a pop up confirming that you want to cancel the alert. If you are happy to proceed, select Cancel.
Panic button audit logs
If you ever need to access audit lots of panic button events, alerts and responses, these can be found in the Audit module of Medicus.
