Purpose
The patient report builder is intended to support ad hoc reports where there isn't currently an out of the box report or dashboard in the system. This user guide will show you how to how to use to patient report builder.
Navigating to the reporting module
To navigate to the patient report builder, select 'Modules' from the left hand side navigation bar to open up the modules menu, then select 'Reporting & Data Returns'.
Once in the Reporting module, select 'Patient Report Builder'.
Creating a New Report
Select 'Create report'.
This will open up the 'Generate New Report' form.
First, select your report focus. Medicus supports 3 focuses:
- Patients
- Activity
- Specific NHS numbers/ GY Numbers - e.g. if you wanted to copy a list of NHS/ GY numbers from an excel document to run a report against.
Next, choose your patient population. Here you can set:
- Age
- Clinical sex
- Current registration type
- Named GP
Then select 'Add' under the 'Report Criteria' section to specify your report criteria. Here you can choose from:
- Issued medication
- Not issued medication
- Record contains code
- Record contains code with value - this enables searching for target specific values for observations e.g. BMI>=30 or QRisk>=10
- Record does not contain code
When searching using codes, you can choose to search for a specific code or for a code in a refset.
You can choose many report criteria. Each criteria is AND, for example "Prescribed Amoxicillin" + "Does not have code Medication Review" this means all patients who have been prescribed Amoxicillin AND does not have the code Medication Review.
You can also select a date range and choose whether to only search for codes / medications that have been added or issued at the practice. For date range you can select:
- No date limit
- Relative range e.g. last 4 weeks, last 5 years
- Fixed range
Once you've set the criteria, you can choose which columns you want the report to include. Here you can include contact information, named GP, registration type etc.
When you have set up all the criteria and columns needed click 'Run report'. You can save these reports in Medicus to re-run at any time and copy reports if you need to retain the same base population while adding new search terms. You can also export patient reports to csv files using the Export drop down.
