Purpose
When configuring your practice scanners, you first need to determine whether they support the SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) or WebDAV (HTTPS) network protocol. This user guide provides detailed steps on how to configure an Epson ES-580W scanner, which is an example of a common scanner model which utilises WebDAV (HTTPS).
Configuration steps
Step 1
First, you need to configure your scanner settings.
- On the homepage of the scanner interface, select ‘Settings’.
- Select ‘User Settings’, then select ‘Scan to Network Folder/FTP’.
- Configure the following settings:

Step 2
Next, you need to create a Contact on your scanner.
- On the homepage of the scanner interface, select ‘Network Folder/FTP’.
- Select ‘Contacts’.
- Select the ‘Add Contact’ icon which is to the right of the search bar at the top of the screen.
Step 3
Enter the credentials provided in Medicus into the corresponding fields in the contact.
Note: Do not include spaces when entering the password on the scanner.
Select ‘OK’ to register the contact.
Step 4
Next, you need to create a Preset on your scanner.
- Select ‘Presets’ on the bottom left of the home screen.
- Select one of the ‘+’ icons to add a new preset.
- Select ‘Scan to Network Folder/FTP’.
- Select the name of the contact you created in the previous steps and then select ‘Register’ on the right-hand side of the screen.
Step 5
Enter the Medicus credentials and specify the settings for the Preset.
| Credentials | |
| Name | Medicus |
| Quick send setting | On |
Select ‘OK’ to create your Preset.
Step 6
Finally, add your Preset to the scanner’s home screen.
- On the Presets screen, click the arrow next to the name of your newly created preset. Scroll down and select ‘Add or Remove Icon on Home’ and then select ‘Yes’ to confirm this action.
- This preset will now be available as a ‘one touch’ button to send a scanned document to Medicus. You can change the order of the icons on the Home screen in Settings if desired.
Your scanner is now set up - please scan a test document (i.e. a document with no patient identifying information) to ensure that, once scanned, it successfully appears in Medicus for processing.
Troubleshooting common issues
- If you receive an error "File Name Already In Use", you may need to ensure the communication mode is set to HTTPS (and not HTTP).
