Purpose
When configuring your practice scanners, you first need to determine whether they support the SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) or WebDAV (HTTPS) network protocol. This user guide provides detailed steps on how to configure a Brother ADS-4700W scanner, which is an example of a common scanner model which utilises SFTP.
Configuration steps
Step 1
First, you need to set up a SFTP profile.
- Connect the scanner to the same network as the computer you will use to configure it.
- Follow the instructions here to set up a ‘Scan to SFTP’ Profile from your computer: Set up a Scan to SFTP Profile | ADS‑3100 | ADS‑3300W | ADS‑4100 | ADS‑4500W
- When setting up the profile:
- Enter the scanner credentials provided in Medicus into the corresponding options in the SFTP profile - including uploading the Server public key provided.
- Configure the following options:
| Settings | |
| Colour | B&W 300 dpi |
| File type | PDF multi-page |
| Skip blank page | On |
| Document separation | Off |
| 2-sided scan | On |
| Continuous scan | Off |
| Port number | 22 |
Step 2
Next, you need to set up a shortcut for the SFTP profile.
- On the scanner, navigate to ‘FTP/SFTP’ - which can be found on page 2/3 of the scanner’s homepage.
- You should see your SFTP profile displayed - in the top right-hand corner click ‘Save as Shortcut' and confirm this action.
- Set a name for your shortcut (e.g Medicus) and then check the box to set as a One Touch Shortcut. This option can now be accessed via the Shortcuts button on the scanner’s homepage.
Your scanner is now set up - please scan a test document (i.e. a document with no patient identifying information) to ensure that, once scanned, it successfully appears in Medicus for processing.
Note: If the connection times out trying to connect to the Medicus SFTP server, you may need to set the scanner’s DNS server IP address manually.
Go to Network -> TCP/IP (Wireless) -> Advanced
Set the DNS Server Method to STATIC
Enter your network's DNS Servers IP addresses
