Purpose
This article shows you how to record a vaccination for an individual or for a group of patients in Medicus. This covers point of care vaccinations as well as recording vaccinations that were delivered in another care setting (eg. in a school).
Recording an immunisation for an individual patient
There are two routes to record an immunisation for an individual patient in Medicus.
From the patient care record
Within a consultation (from an appointment)
Recording an immunisation from the care record
To record an immunisation directly from the patient record go to the ‘Actions' button on the top right of the patient's record and select Immunisation.
Recording an immunisation from a consultation (in an appointment)
If you're delivering the immunisation in the course of an appointment you can record the immunisation from the consultation. Start typing '/Immunisations' for the option to appear.
Once you have selected the Immunisation action you will see the below window:
From here you have three options that will allow you to record an immunisation:
Record an immunisation defined by patient group - allows you to select from pre defined vaccine cohorts.
Manually enter a point of care immunisation - allows you to complete the form manually for a point of care immunisation.
-
Record immunisation history - allows you to record an immunisation administered elsewhere.
Recording an Immunisation from a patient group
Selecting the arrow to the right of the 'Patient group' free text box triggers a drop-down menu of patient groups. This list aligns with the national immunisation schedules and guidelines, ensuring that vaccinations are recorded according to the appropriate patient categories.
When you select a patient group from the drop-down, the immunisations available for that Patient group are displayed:
Selecting a routine immunisation will open the ‘Record Point of Care Immunisation’ form. Choosing the appropriate patient group and vaccine will automatically populate those fields on the form.
Complete the remaining required fields, then click ‘Record immunisation’ to save
Manually entering a Point of Care Immunisation
Selecting ‘Manually enter a point of care immunisation’ directly opens the ‘Record Point of Care Immunisation’ pop-up. From there, complete the form by filling in all required fields, then click ‘Record immunisation’ to save.
Manually recording immunisation history
If you need to record an immunisation given to a patient elsewhere, you can choose the 'Record Immunisation History'. This will open a similar form to 'Point of Care Immunisation' where you can record where they had the immunisation and who it was administered by.
Once saved, these records will be visible on the patient's journal as well as the 'Immunisations' section.
Batch recording immunisation history
You can easily batch record immunisation history for a list of patients from a report. To do so, select the report from the 'Report Builder' list (Modules > Reporting and Data Returns > Report Builder).
(Read more about how to create ad-hoc reports for a list of patient identifiers here).
Then select 'Bulk Actions' > 'Add Immunisation'
This will open up the 'Bulk Add Immunisation' form to record the immunisation given. You be asked to confirm that you are happy to proceed to bulk insert an immunisation for all patients on the list and that you understand the implications of bulk inserting immunisation records.
